UFC CEO Dana White has been talking about a UFC event at the Sphere in Las Vegas and now we finally have a date. UFC 306 will take place at the Sphere on Sept 14 as part of the Mexican Independence Day celebrations. The announcement was made during the broadcast of UFC Mexico City Moreno vs. Royval 2 on Saturday night. With the event being part of Mexican Independence Day the promotion will surely look for a proper main event. With Alexa Grasso the lone Mexican champion on the roster it may be that she’ll be sidelined until UFC 306. Grasso was victorious over former champion Valentina Shevchenko at the first Noche UFC event in 2023. Yair Rodriguez lost against Brian Ortega at UFC Mexico City, and Brandon Moreno fell short against Brandon Royval so it’s unlikely either Mexican fighter will be fighting for a title at UFC 306. This marks the second Noche UFC event except now it’s a numbered PPV event meaning it won’t be a part of fans’s ESPN+ subscriptions in the states. No fights have been announced for the event as of yet. The Sphere opened up in Las Vegas on Sept 29, 2023. The venue has seating for 18,600 people or possibly 20,000 if standing room only. Rock band U2 has had over 40 dates scheduled for the venue which is currently one of the more popular spots in Las Vegas.
