Legendary rockers U2 will make an extended encore at James Dolan’s Sphere in Las Vegas as the entertainment mogul continues to hunt for other big-name acts to fill the new arena, The Post has learned.
The band, which opened the state-art-of-the $2.3 billion venue last month, has agreed to add 12 concerts to the 25-show residency originally slated to end Dec. 16, according to sources.
Dolan has invested $10 million to create the “U2 UV: Achtung Baby” spectacle, which is beamed on the Sphere’s dazzling 16K-resolution screens as the band performs.
U2 had the option to extend the residency, sources said.
The additional dates come as talks to land the Eagles, which The Post first reported, have yet to be finalized, a source close to the situation said.
Dolan — who controls the venue through the parent company Sphere Entertainment — would likely have to invest additional millions on any new concert production, which makes extending U2 a much safer and cost-efficient move, an insider said.
“The band is less important than the visuals,” the source said. “People want the Sphere experience more than the band.”
Representatives for MSG and the Eagles declined comment.
The Sphere has little wiggle room when it comes to making money from concert ticket sales, generating revenue from advertising, merch and suite sales, the source said.
Concert promoter LiveNation has been paying the band a guaranteed $4 million a show no matter the attendance at the 17,500-seat venue, the source said.
The U2 concert has been one of the hottest tickets on the Strip, with some seats fetching several thousands of dollars.
Dolan had told the New York Times that the next two acts for the Sphere had been booked in an interview last month.
However, no additional acts have yet to be announced.
