Rolly Romero-Ismael Barroso: Weigh-In Results From The Cosmopolitan Of Las Vegas - Boxing News

LAS VEGAS – There has been a lot of speculation about Ismael Barroso’s actual age since he appeared at a press conference Thursday at The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas.

There was no such discrepancy Friday about the 40-year-old contender’s ability to still make his division’s 140-pound limit. Venezuela’s Barroso stepped on the Nevada State Athletic Commission’s scale at 139.4 pounds for his fight against Rolando “Rolly” Romero on Saturday night.

North Las Vegas’ Romero, 28, officially weighed exactly the same, 139.4 pounds, for what will be his first fight at the super lightweight limit of 140 pounds.

Romero (14-1, 12 KOs) and Barroso (24-3-2, 22 KOs) will fight for the vacant WBA super lightweight title in a “Showtime Championship Boxing” main event at The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas.

The fifth-ranked Romero was scheduled to challenge Alberto Puello for what was supposed to be Puello’s first 140-pound title defense. Puello (21-0, 10 KOs) tested positive for clomiphene, a banned substance, and was removed from their fight last month.

Barroso, the WBA’s mandatory challenger in the super lightweight division, replaced Puello, who has since been rendered the WBA’s champion in recess. If Puello’s B sample submitted to the Voluntary Anti-Doping Association comes back positive for clomiphene, the WBA is expected to strip the Dominican southpaw of his championship.

Barroso was already training when he stepped in for Puello because he was scheduled to box on the Romero-Puello undercard.

The official weights for the fights on the Romero-Barroso undercard are listed below.
