On Thursday, four individuals accused of sliding dice during craps games at the Cosmopolitan in Las Vegas appeared in court. In a statement on Thursday, officials disclosed that these men, residents of Las Vegas, won $226,948 in just six days at the casino between November and December 2021. If found guilty of fraud, they could face imprisonment.
In what casinos view as a deceitful act, crap players don’t roll the real dice; instead, they simply allow the dice to slide across the table. During the Cosmopolitan event, casino officials observed a player indicating to another player that they were ready to roll the dice, signaling his counterpart to place a bet. Resorts World Las Vegas is said to have been the center of the fraudulent activity, as well, according to KLAS, a Las Vegas-based media outlet.
The alleged fraudsters weren’t playing a typical old-school crap table. They were on an electronic gaming table that still allows players to roll physical dice. Unlike regular felt tables, though, the dice slide easier in the semi-automatic electronic version.
The Nevada Gaming Control Board (NGCB) has accused them of engaging in illegal computer activity and conspiracy, in addition to cheating, and the accused were allowed to post their own bail. The NGCB is still investigating the matter before handing the relevant materials over to prosecuting authorities.
The board said in a statement that video surveillance from casinos and monitoring of player accounts are key pieces of evidence in the case. The accusations are without merit, stated a defense attorney representing one of the defendants.
