Plaza Reimagines Downtown Las Vegas Casino With New Outdoor Bar And Smoke-Free Slots Room

Plaza Hotel & Casino has a new face where Main Street meets the Fremont Street Experience in downtown Las Vegas. The former porte cochere and entrance space is now home to the circular Carousel Bar.

The new bar is flanked by a new smoke-free Brian Christopher Slots Room and a bright Pinkbox Doughnut shop. The property also added outdoor seating to Oscar’s Steakhouse on the second floor.

The changes at the Plaza are part of the “Main Street Reimagination” of this quintessential downtown Las Vegas casino. The plans were announced about a year ago.

During a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new venues Plaza Hotel & Casino CEO Jonathan Jossel said:

“For more than 50 years, the Plaza has called 1 Main Street home. Main Street is where Las Vegas got its start, and the Plaza continues to enhance this historic and exciting thoroughfare. Last year, we opened the legendary live music venue Sand Dollar Downtown. Today, we further establish Main Street as a premier downtown destination with the addition of Carousel Bar, Pinkbox Doughnuts, Brian Christopher Slots at Plaza, and a rooftop patio overlooking it all at Oscar’s Steakhouse.”

The additions change the face of the Plaza while the property continues to stick to its roots of offering classic Las Vegas service and gaming throughout the property.

Only Outdoor Video Poker Bar

Stopped by @PlazaLasVegas @carouselbarlv and had a tasty Kona. Nice bar. Video poker still hates me. Beer doesn’t. pic.twitter.com/sjHCDwRMQj

The first change visitors will see at the Plaza is the Carousel Bar. The new bar sits under the iconic dome of the Plaza.

Instead of walking through a closed valet area to get into the casino, guests will walk around the new carousel-inspired bar. However, many will gamble at the Plaza without ever stepping foot in the casino.

The Carousel Bar is the only place to play video poker outdoors at a casino in Las Vegas. The circular bar has eight Aristocrat video poker machines that also feature slot games like Buffalo.

Video poker isn’t the focus of Carousel Bar. It’s an additional feature that occupies fewer than half the seats at the bar. There’s ample lounge seating surrounding the bar. Altogether the 2,500-square-foot bar has seating for nearly 100 people.

Carousel Bar has a local beer and specialty cocktail menu. Unfortunately, many of the drinks on the menu aren’t available as complimentary beverages for video poker players. The complimentary drinks for gamblers are draft beer and well drinks.

Las Vegas gets hot in the summer and the bar has misters to keep players a little cooler while they sit, drink and play under the dome.

Another way the bar will help keep temperatures down is that there’s no smoking at Carousel Bar even though it’s an outdoor space. This is just a few steps away from another new smoke-free gaming space at the Plaza.

The Plaza extended its casino by adding the smoke-free Brian Christopher Slots room to the north of the main gaming floor. The partnership with the slot machine YouTuber isn’t new.

There was previously a section on the main casino floor at the Plaza. The new 2,500-square-foot room has about 75 of Christopher’s favorite new and old slot machines.

This is the first fully smoke-free casino space in Downtown Las Vegas. While it’s part of the Plaza, the room isn’t connected to the main casino floor. It’s accessible from the street or an entrance by the food court.

Being away from the main casino floor means smoke won’t travel into the room. Additionally, the room has its own air filtration system. The air in this room won’t be the same as the rest of the property.

The machines have QR codes where players can learn about winning free gifts as well as watch some of Christopher’s wins that have been captured on video.

The room is social media-friendly and the Plaza won’t bother anyone recording video or taking photos. Photos are encouraged with Instagrammable backdrops.

Christopher plans to visit the Plaza for livestreams or special events for fans.

Pinkbox Doughnuts

The 10th Pinkbox Doughnuts shop in Las Vegas adds a little whimsy to this historic casino. Guests can enter the shop through a 12-foot-tall doughnut on Main Street. There’s a less spectacular entrance on the casino floor as well.

The bright and very pink shop has as many as 70 different doughnuts. The shop and doughnuts are both equally Instagrammable.

Pinkbox is open 24 hours on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The doughnut shop is open from 5 a.m. until midnight the rest of the week.
