From Boston to Vegas, it was announced today, November 6, that the Hall of Fame R&B group New Edition will take their greatest hits to Sin City in 2024 as the new residency act at the Encore Theater in Wynn Las Vegas.
The residency runs from February 28 to March 9. Featuring fan-favorite solo and group hits like “Mr. Telephone Man,” “If It Isn’t Love,” and “Can You Stand The Rain,” Ronnie, Bobby, Ricky, Mike, Ralph, and Johnny Gill will put on an intimate show. The residency follows up the group’s two-year run on tour.
“This is going to be more theatrical than our Legacy and Culture tours,” said Bobby Brown following the group’s honor to The Spinners at the Rock N’ Roll Hall of Fame presentation on Sunday (November 5). “This will be a lot more intimate. We wanted it to be up, close, and personal for our fans.” And Ronnie DeVoe thanked the fans for their endless support and demand for the residency. We’re looking to touch that stage and continue on with the legacy.”
New Edition will be the latest hall of famers residing in the Encore Theater, which has previously hosted icons such as Diana Ross, Lionel Richie, and Duran Duran. In response to the question of what fans can look forward to from the upcoming residency, Michael Bivins offered these words:
“Our audience got a chance to see growth, bond, brotherhood. Sometimes, that’s bigger than any record because people come to look for separation. But I think we’ll give them the glue.”
Founded in 1978, New Edition is among the greatest groups of all time, with a career spanning 47 years, six albums, legendary tours, and several trendsetting solo and group careers among the six members. Several classic albums have been released by Ralph Tresvant, Johnny Gill, and Bobby Brown as solo artists. In their group, Bell Biv DeVoe, Ronnie DeVoe, Ricky Bell, and Mike Bivins created a new style of hip-hop that was smoothed out on the R&B side with a pop feel. The New Edition legacy spawned the legendary R&B group Boyz II Men with today’s variety of R&B greats like Usher, Tank, Anthony Hamilton, and Diddy, crediting their undeniable influence in their music.
Alongside the residency, the group will release new music to thank the devoted fans who have followed them for 47 years. “It makes sense,” DeVoe said. “I think it’ll be a great time to get in the studio and put our vocals on something new and fresh.”
Tickets for the New Edition residency go on sale Friday, November 10, on Ticketmaster.
