Derek Carr discusses what made his wife cry, Wembanyama approached by Brittany Spears, a key Las Vegas Raider might want out, and more last week in Las Vegas sports (July 3 -9).
Derek Carr is now a member of the Saints and speaking out about his time in Las Vegas. Carr now claims that he was done with the Raiders after getting benched. This ultimately brought his wife to tears and angered Carr. He claims he wanted to finish the season but was denied in favor of Jarrett Stidham.
“Once they made my wife cry, that was pretty much over,” Carr said. “Once they made her cry, that was out. But the love for my teammates is what probably would have made me do it. The way it worked out and the timing of things, I was just … it was time for me to move on. Who knows? You never know what will happen.”
The F1 street race on the Las Vegas Strip is still months away, but the organization wants to make the event an annual deal. The series recently announced they are returning to Las Vegas in 2024.
“We have plenty of racing to look forward to in 2023, including the inaugural Las Vegas Grand Prix, and our fans can look forward to more excitement next season,” stated Stefano Domenicali, the President and CEO of Formula One.
Victor Wembanyama is participating in the NBA Summer League, hosted in Las Vegas. Before a game, Webanyama was approached by pop icon Britney Spears from behind. Spears later filed a lawsuit alleging battery when a Spurs security guard hit her.
The video footage told a different story, and police determined that security did nothing wrong. The footage shows Spears accidentally hitting herself in the face after trying to grab Wembamyama’s shoulder. The security guard then pushes her away and causes her to hit herself.
“Something did happen, a little bit when I was walking with some security from the team to some restaurant,” Wembanyama said. “We were in the hall. There were a lot of people, so people were calling [at] me, obviously.”
Las Vegas is now a hot spot for the NBA, and that trend will continue in 2024. The league just announced an in-season tournament culminating at the T-Mobile arena. The first six weeks will feature group play games with teams broken into pools. Each team competes against each other in four games, and the winner of each pool faces off in a single elimination tournament. This will determine the final four in Las Vegas.
“This is a concept that has been rumbling around the league office for around 15 years,” NBA Commissioner Adam Silver said. “We thought what a perfect opportunity for a global league like the NBA, and it’s a perfect fit for our game.
The Raiders are facing a lot of unknowns, and things are starting to get much worse. There are now rumors that Davantae Adams wants out of Las Vegas. If true, it deals a major blow to the Raiders’ wide receiver depth.
“The Raiders open (the season) with the Denver Broncos who they beat twice last season, but then they get the Bills, Steelers, and Chargers before playing Adams’ former team on Monday Night Football,” Alex Ballentine of Bleacherreport explains. “It’s not hard to envision a scenario where a slow start and a loss to the Packers on national television could wear out the relationship between Adams and the Raiders.”
