It’s the end of the road for the Raiders, but things continue to look bright for the Golden Knights. Here’s what happened last week in Las Vegas Sports (Jan 2 – 8).
Las Vegas Golden Knights center Jack Eichel returned to action last week against the Pittsburgh Penguins in a glorious showing. Eichel scored a goal and two assists in Las Vegas’ 5-2 victory over the Penguins after sitting out for weeks with a lower-body injury.
“He’s an elite player in the league,” Las Vegas Golden Knights head coach Bruce Cassidy said of Eichel. “He’s excited to play again. He was having, I would say, an All-Star type of year when he started. Might still be in the mix.”
Las Vegas Raiders fans have not been happy this season and a lot of that has to do with Josh McDaniels still having a job as head coach. One fan expressed their anger during last week’s home game against the 49ers with a homemade fire Josh McDaniels sign. It also had save Derek Carr at the bottom.
The fan spoke on the Wifi Willie show on Youtube and claims that he was stopped by security inside the stadium. The guard told him to put away the sign or be removed from the stadium for noncompliance. A fan next to them asked if this was a decision from the top, which the guard confirmed with a nod.
Logan Thompson has accomplished a lot in his second season with the Las Vegas Golden Knights, and his performances aren’t going unnoticed. In fact, Thompson got selected last week for the Honda All-Star team roster in February. This is the first time that Thompson has made a star team, and will be interesting to see how he does.
This means Thompson gets to take part in the skills challenge and the Honda All-Star game. The event will take place at the FLA arena in Sunrise, Florida, in February. Thompson currently holds a record of 18-9 as a starter, with 860 saves, 73 goals allowed, and two shutouts.
Th Las Vegas Raiders lost to the Kansas City Chiefs 31-13 in week 18. Backup quarterback Jarrett Stidham managed to go 22 of 36 for 219 yards, one touchdown, and one interception on Saturday. This wouldn’t be enough to turn the tide against the Chiefs but it was a last breath of fresh air for the team.
The Raider’s defense gave up 31 points and a total of 349 yards on Saturday. This includes 181 passing yards, 168 rushing yards, and an average gain of 6.2 yards per gain.
Las Vegas looked abysmal, leading many Raider Nation fans to leave Allegiant Stadium early in disgust. No one could blame them after Las Vegas allowed two turnovers, six sacks, and only one score. Nothing worked for the team on Saturday, making for an embarrassing way to end the year.
