Last Week in Las Vegas Sports (Jan 16 – 22)

Additional honors for Josh Jacobs, a few parting shots from Dearica Hamby, and a whole lot more. Here’s what happened last week in Las Vegas sports (Jan 16 – 22).

#6 Las Vegas Raiders rumored to play an international game in 2023

The Las Vegas Raiders could be heading overseas for the first time since 2019. Both the Chiefs and the Bills are set to play games overseas next season, but opponents haven’t been announced. Early speculation, however, is that the Raiders are going to be the ones to challenge them in either London or Germany.

The first reason for this is that the Raiders play both the Chiefs and the Bills in 2023. Furthermore, these will both be road games, which opens the door to an international game. Keep in mind that the Raiders haven’t played an international game since moving to Las Vegas in 2020, showing just how historic this could be.

#5 Josh Jacobs named fourth most valuable running back in 2022

Joshua Jacobs is one of the best things about the Las Vegas Raiders, and the organization needs to pay the man. Speaking of payment, a new list has Jacobs as the fourth most valuable running back in the league, making him a commodity on the free-agent market.

Seth Walder of ESPN has Jacobs pegged as one of the league’s best rushers in his latest list. Of course, he sits behind a few guys, but that is explained by his lack of passing efficiently. Despite that one flaw, Jacobs is still one of the most productive running backs in the game.

“Jacobs had a remarkable season, make no mistake,” Welder claimed when speaking about the Las Vegas running back.  “I think most will be asking why he’s so low on this list. The simple answer is that his 0.5 rush yards over expectation per carry were good but not great, considering his volume.”

#4 Coach blames Jack Eichel for Las Vegas Golden Knights’ struggles

The Las Vegas Golden Knights are struggling and have even dropped from the lead in the Pacific division. Coach Bruce Cassidy spoke about their losing streak after a bad game against the Redwings and pointed the blame at Jack Eichel.

“Jack just hasn’t been the same driving force for us as he was at the start of the year,” Cassidy told reporters after Vegas’ loss. “The expectations are not being met. He needs to be better for us, especially as we’re down a few guys that create offense for us. He needs to be one of the drivers.”

If the situation doesn’t improve, the Raiders might unravel again come playoff time.

#3 Kyle Busch set to compete in two SRX races this summer

Las Vegas native Kyle Busch loves competition, and that’s why he’s making his debut in SRX this summer! The series is owned by former NASCAR Cup champion, Tony Stewart, and stands for Superstar Racing Xperience. The series notched a deal with ESPN that will see the races moved to Thursday instead of Saturday.

This gives  Busch the opportunity to compete in two races in July.  The first will be at the Motor Mile Speedway and the next week at Berlin Speedway. Other drivers joining Busch include Clint Bowyer, Helio Castroneves, and Kevin Harvick.

“I’ve been working with everyone at SRX trying to get one of their races on my schedule the last couple of seasons and things didn’t work out, so when they announced they were having weeknight races in close proximity to a couple of races on the Cup schedule, SRX and I immediately got together to plan something for this year,” Busch said. “I’ve won at Berlin in the Super Late Model and I really enjoy racing at these local short tracks across the country, so it’ll be fun to go back and support those tracks and the great fan bases that they have.

#2 Dearica Hamby rages after trade to Los Angeles Sparks

The Aces traded Dearica Hamby to the Sparks last week for a future draft pick and Amanda Zahui B. The move comes only months after the Aces captured their first championship and signed Hamby to a contract extension. The former Las Vegas star is now speaking out and claiming she has been bullied by the organization.

“I have had my character and work ethic attacked,” Hamby said in a statement. “I was promised things to entice me to sign my contract extension that was not followed through on. was accused of signing my extension knowingly pregnant. This is false. I was told that I was a question mark’ and that it was said that I said I would ‘get pregnant again’ and there was a concern for my level of commitment to the team. I was told that ‘I didn’t hold up my end of the bargain’ (because ‘no one expected me to get pregnant in the next two years’).”

#1 Derek Carr trade likely coming sooner rather than later

The Derek Carr saga is about to come to an end, and it might be sooner than expected. Rumors indicated that the Raiders are hoping to move him during Super Bowl weekend, but a new report from Adam Schefter is claiming it could be sooner.

“At some point this offseason, earlier rather than later, he is expected to be traded,” Schefter said of Carr.

And that’s what happened last week in Las Vegas Sports (Jan 16 – 22).
