From Josh McDaniels talking about what he wants in a QB, to contract details on Josh jacobs. Get ready for some epic stories from last week in Las Vegas Sports (Feb 27 – Mar 5).
NASCAR rode into Las Vegas over the weekend and fans got quite the show at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. While 36 drivers entered Sunday’s Pennzoil 400 presented by Jiffy Lube, William Bryon was the man to come out on top. He did this by holding off several contenders on the final restart to get to the flag first.
This is all thanks to a late race caution that forced teams to gamble on pit road. Bryon decided to take two tires on pit road, which put him out in front of his teammate, Kyle Larson. The victory is Byron’s first of the season and virtually guarantees him a spot in the playoffs. Las Vegas native, Kyle Busch, finished 14th after what had to be a very disappointing outing. He didn’t lead one lap and wasn’t his usual competitive self.
Kesley Plum earned the Most Improved Player award in 2022 for her remarkable career comeback, but it’s her personal life now making headlines. The WNBA championship-winning Plum tied the knot with the Raiders’ Darren Waller last week. The event took place on Saturday in Las Vegas and looked like a heck of a party!
Plum posted photos on her Instagram, including them at the alter. Now that the nuptials are over, however, one has to wonder who wins the next championship?
The Las Vegas Golden Knights are down another man after Laurent Brossoit was injured last week. The Las Vegas Review-Journal claims that it’s a lower-body injury and that he is listed day to day. The blow comes after Logan Thompson went down with a lower-body injury and Adin Hill needed rest.
This forced the Golden Knights to trade for Jonathon Quick in exchange for goaltender Michael Hutchinson and a seventh-round pick. Despite the ongoing turmoil, Las Vegas has gone 7-1-2 in their last ten games and hold first place in the Pacific Division.
Unfortunately, the gap is dwindling and the Golden Knights don’t have any firm timetables on returns. The likely situation is Hill, and Quick platooning the net until Thompson can come return. Depending on how this plays out, their performances could also determine who starts the playoffs.
Denny Hamlin is making waves on his new program “Actions detrimental” and for good reason. The JGR driver is not afraid to get into the dirty details and fans are loving it. In a recent edition of the show, he discussed some behind-the-scenes details about Kyle Busch’s exit from JGR
“People have to understand that Joe Gibbs wanted to sign Kyle Busch,” Hamlin claims when talking about the Las Vegas native’s exit. “They really tried, and they gave him a very, very good offer. But he did not want to take it and ended up taking probably a lot less because he had run out of options.”
Hamlin also urged Kyle Busch fans to be grateful for JGR putting him in good equipment and helping him win two championships. While the sentiment might sound a little hollow after how things were left, Coach Gibbs does deserve credit. The man was the person to finally put Busch in championship-winning equipment.
“Listen, Rick Hendrick did not let go of Kyle Busch because he didn’t think he was talented, there was some baggage and he did some things that rubbed Mr. H wrong and they moved on,” Denny Hamlin described. “I think that Kyle Busch fans should be grateful to Joe Gibbs Racing. They got Kyle 50-some of his wins. They provided him with great equipment.”
Joshua Jacobs more than proved himself in 2022 and the Raiders now have to pay the man. According to NFL Media’s Tom Pelissero, Las Vegas will be looking to place the franchise tag on him if they aren’t able to reach a deal before the deadline. It has not been disclosed whether the tag would be exclusive or not.
Las Vegas seems to be once again stalling on something that should be a done deal. He is one of the only components of the Raiders’ offense that works at this point and he puts up great numbers. There should be nothing wrong with paying the man what he is owned after winning the rushing record this year.
Josh McDaniels is on the hot seat after 2022, which is why he needs to turn things around. His first task and probably most important one will be finding a quarterback. Derek Carr has been that guy for nine years but was finally cut after his disastrous play. Las Vegas even benched him for the final two games in favor of Jarret Stidham.
The embattled head coach is now raising eyebrows for wanting to take his time in finding a new QB. One would think he needs to find an answer fast, but he seems to think there’s no rush. It may even take multiple seasons the way he is spinning it at the NFL combine. If true, this is going to make some Las Vegas fans very angry with the organization.
“I mean, I think there’s always urgency at that position,” Raiders Coach Josh McDaniels said at the NFL Combine last Tuesday. “You know, look, the goal for us eventually is to have somebody that’s going to be here for a long time.
And that was last week in Las Vegas sports (Feb 27 – Mar 5)!
