When Jennifer Lopez first tied the knot with Ben Affleck at The Little White Wedding Chapel in Las Vegas on July 17, 2022, she wore a dress that she sourced from her very own closet. Although she shared all of the details on her nuptials with her newsletter, On the JLo, readers, she never revealed where that frock actually came from. After the affair, fans speculated that the gown was from one of Lopez’s movies, Jersey Girl .
Both Lopez and Affleck starred in the 2004 film, and it was supposed to include a wedding scene, but director Kevin Smith decided to cut it after the stars broke up. “I didn’t know [if it was right] to leave it in,” Smith told Us Weekly . “People might forget they’re watching a picture, like, ‘Wait, didn’t these two not get married?’” Since Lopez never got to wear the dress in the movie, fans theorized that it finally made an appearance on her wedding day.
On Tuesday, February 13, 2024, the Hustlers actress addressed the rumors in an interview with Variety. While Lopez played a game, where she had to guess the name of the movie that corresponded to the line she said, one of the crew members asked if the allegations that were circulating around the Jersey Girl wedding dress were true. “No, that’s not true,” Lopez clarified. “I wish it was. I wish I did have that dress. I don’t have that dress. No, this was a different dress that I had.”
Lopez proceeded to reveal where she really got the dress that she wore for her big day, an A-line gown with a high neckline and textured fabric. “Believe it or not, I was doing so much press for Marry Me or Shotgun Wedding or one of those, so I had all these wedding dresses in my house,” she recalled. “And when we, at the square of the moment, decided to get married that day, I just had a dress. It’s not from a movie. I never wore it in a movie.”
For their courthouse wedding, Affleck also followed in Lopez’s footsteps and donned a white tuxedo from his own wardrobe. After the multi-hyphenate walked down the aisle in her wedding dress, she changed into a Zuhair Murad off-the-shoulder lace gown. Once she and Affleck were pronounced newlyweds, Lopez wrote about the experience in On the JLo. “We did it,” Lopez wrote. “Love is beautiful. Love is kind. And it turns out, love is patient. Twenty years patient. Exactly what we wanted.”
