As if being the biggest ball on Earth and having giant LED screens inside and out wasn’t enough, MSG Sphere has announced its next plan to take Las Vegas into the future with robots.
Sphere Entertainment has introduced the world to Aura, the world’s most advanced humanoid robot, which will permanently reside in the arena when it launches this month.
Five Aura robots are located in the venue’s grand lobby to greet guests as they enter and will be available to answer questions, according to David Dibble, CEO of MSG Ventures. The “talking robots” will maintain real-life-like facial expressions and movement on full display.

With large atrium space, enough to fit the Statue of Liberty or a Saturn V rocket, Dibble said MSG Entertainment President James L. Dolan, wanted to add something that “helps convey the role of technology, science, etc. in human evolution.” [and] In the human quest.”
“Facial movements and recognition. I find it amazing; some people might find it scary, but everyone will find it fascinating,” Dibble told USA TODAY. “It sees you, and as you move, it will follow you, it will follow you, it will interact with you.”
Unlike carnival fortune teller robots, Aura has voice storage recognition and will be able to focus on one person speaking directly in front of it at a time if there are multiple people present, Dibble said.
Dibble added that Aura will use AI to advance as it learns more about humans through guest interactions, but the company is “taking slow steps” regarding AI “to see how that evolves.” Human lab technicians will accompany the robots as they “tell the story of humanity’s history of innovation, including the Sphere,” to help maximize the Sphere experience for guests.
Aura will provide missing guests with directions inside the venue and provide details on daily offerings as well as answer questions about the architecture, technology and creative mission of the Sphere, the company shared. The robot will also be a brand ambassador for Sphere, helping manage digital platforms and social channels.
“Hello, humans. Even though I understand the most complex concepts in mathematics and science, you remain a mystery,” Aura said, according to the press release. “Your emotions, sense of humor, and relationship with technology require further study, so you should visit me in Sphere. I’m excited to meet you and introduce you to the future of live entertainment in my new home.”
Each physical creation of a human in early 2022 took three to four months to produce, according to the company.
Sphere Entertainment previously teased Aura on its social media platforms and even in a commercial that aired during the Academy Awards in March.
“Sphere is a whirlwind of experiences. We want people to come in and feel like they’ve been transported to different worlds or attractions. ‘Postcards from Earth’ we thought we would do that, and we thought having robots like this in the lobby would help deliver that theme.” Dibble shared.
When does MSG Sphere open?
MSG Sphere will officially launch to the public on September 29 with a series of 25 concerts featuring U2. ‘U2:UV Achtung Baby Live at Sphere’ will run until mid-December and celebrates the Irish band’s 1991 album ‘Achtung Baby’.
“Most music venues are sports venues. They’re designed for sports, they’re not designed for music. They’re not designed for art,” U2’s Bono said in Apple Music interview . “This building was built for immersive experiences in cinema and performance.”
