The Oakland Athletics are expected to join the Raiders in Las Vegas soon, not that the NFL franchise will be happy about it given their contentious relationship back when they shared a stadium.
The MLB team won’t be sharing a venue this time around, having made plans for a brand-new, cutting-edge ballpark set to be constructed on the famous Vegas Strip. They released some renderings this week, giving fans a sneak peek ahead of the move.
You could check them out right below:
The new ballpark will be built at the south end of the Strip, on the nine-acre Tropicana site. It will have a partially retractable roof and a playing surface that will allow a view of the Strip from the corner of Tropicana and Las Vegas Boulevard.
The venue will also host other sports, concerts, and other entertainment events.
Schrock KC Architecture’s Brad Schrock will be responsible for the design, which will pay homage to the A’s rich history, also representing the unique Vegas spirit. It will boast innovative architecture and top-of-the-line amenities while maintaining environmental consciousness.
“From the minute we stepped onto the Tropicana site nearly two years ago, it was immediately obvious what a fantastic fit it would be for a new A’s ballpark in Las Vegas,” Schrock said.
“The natural orientation of the ballpark creates not only some of the best views and connection to the Las Vegas skyline from the seating bowl, but also opens up the ballpark to the corner in a way that creates opportunities for an amazing energetic public space with open and expansive views into the ballpark.”
The team has tentatively agreed to a deal with Nevada on public financing, with the bill to be introduced to state legislature very soon.
