Max Verstappen will be looking to win his 18th race of the season this weekend as the three-time world champion aims to add to his record breaking season, which saw him crowned Drivers’ Champion back in Qatar at the start of last month.
The Dutchman has won 17 of the 20 races to have been held this season, with his teammate, Sergio Perez, winning two of the other three in what has been a breathtaking runaway season for Red Bull, who lead the Constructors’ Championship by 400 points.
Seven-time world champions Lewis Hamilton will be aiming to win his first race since 2021, as he looks to close the gap on Perez for a second place finish in the championship, though with the gap currently 32 points, the Mexican could seal second place this weekend.
Lando Norris has been Verstappen’s biggest challenger in across the second half of the season in his McLaren, and the young Brit could see himself overtake two-time world champion Fernando Alonso into fourth place in the championship this weekend, as he still awaits his first win in Formula One.
Just six points separates Alonso, Norris and Carlos Sainz in the Drivers’ Championship, with all three drivers battling for fourth place before the season finishes next weekend.
The rest of the top nine in the championship ahead of this weekend’s race sees Charles Leclerc, Sainz’s teammate at Ferrari, slightly further behind the chasing pack, just 14 points ahead of George Russell, Hamilton’s teammate at Mercedes.
Oscar Piastri is enjoying a highly successful rookie year at McLaren alongside Norris, achieving two podiums, including a second place finish in Qatar in a weekend in which he also tasted victory in the sprint race.
Alonso’s Aston Martin teammate Lance Stroll makes up the top half of the standings, though sits only a point ahead of Pierre Gasly in his debut season at Alpine.
